FAiTh – Fight Against Thalassemia – A Patients & Parents Association conducted a Patients & Parents Session at Frontier Foundation Kohat on Friday 11th January 2019 We briefed them about how can they take better care of themselves, how they can maintain their hemoglobin and ferritin, about prevention, about FAiTh Patient Support Group, how can they spread awareness & how can they help themselves & thalassemia center regarding blood donations & iron chelation medicines.
Kohat is a city in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan which serves as the capital of the Kohat District, we traveled 1311 km / 34 hours from Karachi to reach Kohat. Frontier Foundation established in 2004 have approx. 700 registered patients, they are trying their best to provide safe blood transfusions to their patients with self-help & limited resources.
FAiTh have plans to help improve their blood banking system after identifying the weaknesses & to sponsor patients for iron chelation medicines, since due to center’s limited resources & no support from Government patients are unable to take iron chelation medicines hence have high ferritin levels.
In the end attendees promised us to follow all the guidelines we shared with them. Gifts were distributed among the patients by FAiTh

We briefed them about how can they take better care of themselves, how they can maintain their hemoglobin and ferritin, about prevention, about FAiTh Patient Support Group, how can they spread awareness & how can they help themselves & thalassemia center regarding blood donations & iron chelation medicines.

United Foundation established in 2011 have approx. 400 registered patients, they are trying their best to provide safe blood transfusions to their patients with self-help & limited recourses. An Interactive Session For Thalassemia Patients & Parents was organized by FAiTh Patients & Parents Association on 13th December 2018 in Karachi. Event was conducted by Dr Adil Akhter – Pediatrician, Thalassemia Consultant at Amina Bashir Memorial Trust & Project Manager at The Indus Hospital. The event was attended by thalassemia patients & their parents. The event gave a great chance to our thalassemia fellows to ask questions regarding their treatment openly to doctor. We are really thankful to Dr Adil Akhter for his time, support and knowledge.
Alhamdulillah we had a successful thalassemia awareness & interactive session in Vehari Punjab on 4th December 2018. It was attended by general public, media people, civil society, patients & their parents. Our team traveled for 19 hours to reach Vehari. There are more than 400 patients in Vehari, living with low hemoglobin like 4-5 gram, 5000 ferritin, there is a District Headquarter Hospital but they transfuse whole blood to all the patients, they don’t have any proper doctor for guidance, proper blood banking system and machines to make components. Those who can afford, they travel to Multan / Bahawalpur for better treatment. Those who can’t afford have no other option but to take whole blood transfusions and nothing for iron chelation and they hardly live up to 14-15 years old.

FAiTh – Fight Against Thalassemia – A Patients & Parents Association conducted it’s 3rd Patients & Parents Session at Sukkur Blood Bank & Drugs Donating Society on Monday 12th November 2018
The session was attended by patients, parents & staff of Sukkur Blood Bank. 1500 patients are registered with Sukkur Blood Bank till date.
We briefed them about how can they take better care of themselves, how they can maintain their hemoglobin and ferritin, about prevention, about FAiTh Patient Support Group, how can they spread awareness & how can they help themselves & thalassemia center regarding blood donations.
Sukkur is a city in the Pakistani province of Sindh along the western bank of the Indus River, directly across from the historic city of Rohri. Sukkur is the third largest city in Sindh after Karachi and Hyderabad, and is 14th most populous city in Pakistan, we traveled 475.3 km from Karachi to reach Sukkur. Majority of the people in Khairpur doesn’t understand Urdu / English, their native language is Sindhi.
Our Khairpur / Sukkur Team Leader Areeba Gulzar translated all the talks in Sindhi to make it easy for people to understand.

RBC – Regional Blood Centre Sukkur Safe Blood Transfusion Programme. A development project of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, co-financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development Bank. RBC Sukkur was inaugurated in February 2018 by Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Sindh Health Minister Dr Sikander Ali Mandhro and Country Director Kfw Development Bank Wolfgang Moellers. It is situated inside Civil Hospital Sukkur. FAiTh is thankful to Dr Hasan Abbas & Dr Rab Nawaz Memon for inviting us and arranging our visit to RBC Sukkur. We were delighted to see the commitment of RBC team, their devotion, the hard work, standard, protocol which is being followed there. The similar standard / protocol should be followed in other blood banks / thalassemia centers too. Safe blood provision should be the top most priority of all blood banks & thalassemia centers like Regional Blood Banks.

The session was attended by patients, parents & staff of Fatimid Foundation Khairpur. According to the administrator there are 300 active patients who visit Fatimid Foundation Khairpur regularly for their treatment.
We briefed them about how can they take better care of themselves, how they can maintain their hemoglobin and ferritin, about prevention, about FAiTh Patient Support Group, how can they spread awareness & how can they help themselves & thalassemia center regarding blood donations.
Khairpur is a city and the capital of the Khairpur District, in Pakistan’s Sindh province, we traveled 437.5 km from Karachi to reach Khairpur. Majority of the people in Khairpur doesn’t understand Urdu / English, their native language is Sindhi.
Our Khairpur / Sukkur Team Leader Areeba Gulzar translated all the talks in Sindhi to make it easy for people to understand.
